Symposium on Global Change, Asian Monsoon and Extreme Weather and Climate

PSC21, to be held in 13-17 June 2007 in Okinawa, Japan, is the 21 st quadrennial congress of the Pacific Science Association. It will include Symposium 4.1 of the above title during one day of the congress to focus on recent research on the observations, modeling, and impacts of global change, Asian monsoon, climate and severe weather including tropical cyclones in the Asia-Pacific region. The Symposium is co-sponsored by the PSA Scientific Committee on Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences and the PSA Task Force on Global Change and Atmospheric Sciences. The cochairmen are: Prof. Ching-Yen Tsay, Prof. Congbin Fu and Prof. Tetsuzo Yasunari. The deadline for abstract submission is 28 February 2007. The PSA Scientific Committee on Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences will host a pre-Congress meeting of the same title in Taipei, Taiwan during 11-12 June 2007 (new dates). Here the emphasis will also include the discussion of relevant international meteorological programs particularly those on Asian monsoon and tropical cyclones. The cochairmen are: Professor Ching-Yen Tsay (Member, Presidential Board of Advisors), Mr. Chiang-Lin Hsin (Director General, Central Weather Bureau), and Professor Liang-Chun Chen (Director, National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction).
