The 12th Pacific Science Inter-Congress will be held at the campus of the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji from 8 - 12 July 2013.
The theme of the Fiji Inter-Congress is "Human Security in the Pacific", which reflects the UNDP 1994 Human Development Report definition of human security: that the scope of global security should be expanded to include threats in seven areas: Economic security, food security, health security, environmental security, personal security, community security, and political security.
Sessions will be based on the following provisional sub-themes, which are all linked to the main theme of human security:
- Biodiversity, ecosystem services, and development
- Governance and human security
- Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) for human development and human security
- Capacity-building in science and technology for human security
- Food and health security
- Trade and economic integration
- Women, peace, and human security
- Public policy and human security
- Climate change and sustainable development
- Performing arts and maintaining cultural traditions and resources
- Ocean development and human security
