The 21st Pacific Science Congress was held 12-18 June, 2007 at the Okinawa Convention Center in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. The Congress was be hosted by the University of the Ryukyus and co-sponsored by the Science Council of Japan.

The Shinkishi Hatai Medal will have double awardees in recognition of their distinguished leadership in Pacific marine biology. Dr. Tuyoshi Kawasaki (Professor Emeritus, Tohoku University, Japan) and Dr. Shirley Winifred Jeffrey (CSIRO Marine Research, Australia)are the 2007 recipients of the Hatai Medal.
